The whole atmosphere was peaceful and awe inspiring, we even had beautiful music playing softly in the background, which helped to create a magical experience. Each time we visited the open air observatory, we were shown different stars and galaxies. We were transported to another world and even when we went to bed we could continue this experience by watching the starry sky through the glazed aperture above our bed.

“Unforgettable dawn visit to the dunes and the surprise at the end of the drive when an immaculate breakfast was laid out for us in one of the best locations we have ever eaten a meal.”

The quad bike ride on the local dunes was quite an experience for us, being of mature years. The food was superb and the staff exceptional. We also met some very interesting guests from other countries. This same quality of service and variation of surprise events has been just as enjoyable at both Phinda Rock Lodge and Kwandwe in 2008 when, due to the guest numbers, we had the personal service of the excellent ranger ‘Toastrs’ for most of our time there.

By road, a self driven 2 wheel drive vehicle travelling along good gravel roads will also see you safely to the lodge. From Swakopmund, your travelling distance is 380 km (235 miles) and 360 km (2 20 miles) from Windhoek.

RECENT SIGHTINGS FROM WILDWATCH.COM

CHEETAH IN THE NAMIB RAND - 8 May 2013
On my way to the opes safari vehicle I spotted two cheetahs about 300m away! We spent about 15 minutes watching them before they went up a dune. It was a good sighting around the lodge.

A dry, barren desert in the heart of Namibia still manages to play host to a number of spectacular animals, including this lonesome Zebra, caught in the morning sunlight.

LEOPARD AND CHEETAH - 24 February 2013
On our late afternoon drive in the Draaihoek area we were quite lucky to see two cats in one drive! This is one of the most seldom seen cats in the desert. It is nice to see that cats are still around in this very dry raining season in the Namibia.
